26th August 2006
Skydive Weston
Weston on the Green, Oxfordshire

On Saturday 26th August five friends from sister pubs the Hobgoblin, Cowley Road and the Port Mahon, St Clements in Oxford calling themselves Team Plummet, did a sponsored SKYDIVE with all proceeds going to the MHMF.

They had to be at Skydive Weston at Weston on the Green, Oxfordshire, at 8 o'clock in the morning. After a short training session they had to wait a while for weather conditions to improve. They had to split into two groups, so Alan Pearce, Sheila Little and Becca Willis went up in the third flight and Beast and Lianne Sammons of The Duke, St Clements went on the fifth flight of the day. They all dived from 13,000 feet in tandem and all landed safely!

The photos below really show how much everyone enjoyed the day! Special thanks to Mark Rayson of M&M Skydive Videophotography & Photography for providing us with lots of the shots as well as the montage!

Two of the people who were planning to do the skydive, Keiron Norrish and Becca Greenhalgh, were unable to jump, both because of recent minor back injuries. BUT they were both so disappointed that they have decided to reschedule their jumps for Spring 2007 so keep up to date with their plans on miriam-hyman.com. They will be continuing to raise money for the MHMF and they are hoping to recruit more jumpers. A special thank you to Becca Greenhalgh for coming up with the idea of the "Buy a Drink for Mim" campaign which is ongoing. She also had reminder wrist bands made for the team bearing the words: "Team Plummet Skydive 2006 - Failure isn't an option!"

Altogether they raised just over £700 taking the total raised so far for the MHMF to over £45,000.

A huge thank you from Esther, John and Mavis to everyone involved in the skydive and to everyone who sponsored the jumpers!

Keiron said, "We're jumping out of a perfectly good aeroplane for no good reason - other than to raise money for the MHMF!"

In addition to sponsorship for the event, the pubs have also been raising money with their Buy a Drink for Mim! campaign: Every time you order a round of drinks at The Hobgoblin, Cowley Road, or the Port Mahon, tell the bar staff that you are buying a drink for Mim. They will put £2 from your change into the MHMF. People have already been very generous.

A big thank you, and GOOD LUCK to all the jumpers from Esther, Mavis and John!
