Here is a report on the event written by Jo Grant:
Well, we made it! We completed the Scally Rally – the ultimate driving challenge, 1600 miles across 5 countries in 4 days - and in a car costing less than £100!
Of the 85 cars that started out on the Rally, 77 managed to cross the finish line in Madrid and we came in a very respectable 13th place – lucky for some. I should add though that this was not a race but won on points which were collected according to the difficulty of the route chosen and by completing tasks along the way, which were great fun. For example, on the day we passed through Monte Carlo (taking in a few circuits of the Grand Prix track of course), our challenge was to take a photograph of the most expensive car we could find with more points given if our team and/or car were in the shot.
There was a great atmosphere amongst all the teams and lots of get-togethers over much needed cold beers at the end each day, sometimes after 12 hours or more of driving and some nail biting moments on the hairpin bends of some of the finest mountains the Alps has to offer.
The Spirit of the Rally award was quite rightly given to the team who picked up another team whose car had broken down before even leaving Dover – and took them all the way to Madrid.
A lot of money was raised along the way. The registration fees alone raised £2500 for Barnardo’s. We raised £250 for the Miriam Hyman Memorial Fund (in conjunction with ORBIS UK) and it’s still not too late to sponsor us.
Thank you to everyone who has supported us, especially to John who did all the car stickers for us.
With love,
Nine Stone Cowboy – Mark Willis, Andy Cousin & Jo Grant x x x

Here is Julie Allen's report:
Many thanks to all who sponsored us for the ScallyRally 2006. We raised over £300 thanks to you.
The little car went 1,400 miles before finally breaking down in Aigues Mortes, Camargue. We both had a great journey from Oxford-Dover-Calais-Geneva-Menton ending up south of Montpelier. We almost made Spain. The journey took us through all weathers and the scenery was amazing. It's not often you get to rally around the Alps. It certainly put our driving to the test. I am sure Miriam too would have enjoyed our journey.
Love Julie & Iain x
Here is the information which was on this web page before the event:
Four friends from Oxford are taking part in the Scally Rally, and they are splitting the sponsorship money they raise between the MHMF and Helen and Douglas House, providing hospice care for children and young adults in Oxford. They are Mark Willis, Jo Grant, Andy Cousin and Mark Cope (pictured below).
The team, who call themselves Nine Stone Cowboy in car 62, have already been sponsored by lots of friends, and you can now sponsor them online here.

Another team, Iain Kerr and Julie Allen, "The Abbaholics", are doing the rally in Car 82 and are raising sponsorship solely for the MHMF.
The Scally Rally website describes the event:
"ScallyRally is a driving challenge across Europe, from Calais to Madrid. Taking in some of the most amazing roads of the region .. but there's a catch! To enter the 2006 ScallyRally your car must have cost you £100 (or less). We did say it was a challenge!! There will be a maximum of 100 teams taking part."
A big thank you, and GOOD LUCK to both teams from Esther, Mavis and John!
