The Miriam Hyman Memorial Fund Launch Event - Page 7

Gathering for Miriam's Birthday

The fund-raising effort made at the launch event of the Miriam Hyman Memorial Fund was just one of the successful aspects of the day. This gathering was an important opportunity for friends and loved-ones to meet, to remember Miriam, and to support each other as Miriam would have wished. Around five hundred people attended the event, most of whom had a personal connection with Miriam.

With the help of David Godfrey and others, we managed to capture a few moments. We would be glad to receive any other photographs which people took that day. Please email them to info@miriam-hyman.com.

The Refreshments

Friends contributed a great variety of food and soft drinks, and these were offered without charge which gave the event a party atmosphere. Again, we are indebted to the Sternberg Centre for providing additional space for this purpose. Miriam's friend Judith, who was in charge of refreshments, had the idea of setting up a children's corner in the refreshments room.

Contributions of food were so generous that there were still a lot of left-overs by the end of the day, despite everyone eating their fill. A friend who is a member of an organisation which supports the homeless delivered the left-over food to that cause. Miriam spent many Christmas days serving lunch to the homeless so we know that this would have really pleased her.

A Visit from the Religion School Children

The children from the Religion School at the Sternberg Centre noticed us setting up the display and they asked their teacher what we were doing. I spent a few minutes with them explaining the event, and then they respectfully came and had a look around the room. They were particularly interested in Miriam’s craft work, especially when they realised that she was the same age as they are now when she did her craft project.

Media Coverage

The launch event for the MHMF was covered by local media from both London and Oxford as well as the Jewish Chronicle. We appreciate this and the extra interest which it has helped to generate.
