Introduction

The Launch Event for the MHMF

The launch event for the Miriam Hyman Memorial Fund was timed to coincide with Miriam's 33rd birthday on 30th November. We hoped to raise a substantial sum to start the Fund and to provide an opportunity for Miriam’s many friends and loved-ones to gather and remember her in a pleasant atmosphere.

Mavis Hyman has been painting on silk for ten years and had a large collection of Judaica and other items. The original idea was to donate this collection for sale, with all proceeds going to the Fund. Miriam’s close friend, Chris Riley, then came up with the wonderful idea of reproducing cards which Miriam made herself for friends and family in the past. Miriam intended to start a small business making hand-made cards and decided on the name Mimento. We are developing this idea. The cards were available at the event.

A group of people including Miriam’s family, friends and neighbours gave their time, energy and a range of skills and resources to organise the event.

Fundraising at the Launch Event

Sales of all the items, together with the value of gift aid and donations, amounted to over £14,000 and the total is rising as donations come in and the sale of cards continues. The running total for the MHMF is updated on the Home Page
