Copthall School's Miriam Hyman Award
Friday 11th May 2007

Copthall School
Pursley Road, Mill Hill, London, NW7 2EP

Copthall School was Miriam's secondary school. They decided to remember Miriam by creating the Miriam Hyman Award which will be awarded on an annual basis to "the Year 11 student who has demonstrated a true commitment to creative pursuits in Art and Design".

John, Mavis, Esther and three of Miriam's Copthall friends attended the Year 11 presentation ceremony, and Esther was asked to present the winner, Nandini Archer with her certificate and prize of a £25 art shop gift voucher and a copy of the book, "Mimento - Paintings and Pastels by Miriam Hyman". The family also presented the school with a framed poster, one of the reproductions of Miriam's pastel pictures.

We were glad to have the opportunity to have a look at Nandini's GCSE work, and agreed with her teachers that Miriam would have appreciated Nandini's sense of colour and decoration.

Many thanks to Ms Jane Beaumont, Head Teacher, and Mrs Eleanor Flemming, Year 11 Learning Coordinator (who, under her maiden name, Miss Brown, taught Miriam French) for starting the Miriam Hyman Award, and to all of the pupils who made us feel so welcome. Thanks also to the Year 10 pupils for the delicious home-made refreshments!

Congratulations, Nandini!
