The Miriam Hyman Memorial Fund
In the weeks following Miriam's death her family (mother Mavis, father John and sister Esther) decided to set up a memorial fund in her name. It seemed that the only way to respond to the tragedy was by acting positively, and after consultation with friends, the Miriam Hyman Memorial Fund was set up within the charity ORBIS UK.
ORBIS's aim is to prevent avoidable blindness globally and to treat reversible eye conditions, especially in developing countries. The MHMF will finance an ORBIS fellowship annually, enabling a fellow to undertake an intensive course in an area of ophthalmics in a centre of excellence, such as Moorfields Hospital in London. The fellow, who could come from any of the many countries currently supported by ORBIS, may be an eye surgeon, a specialist eye nurse or an eye hospital administrator. The fellow's newly acquired skills will later be passed on to other specialists in their locality. Within the year following the training, the mentor from the centre of excellence visits the fellows in their own localities to monitor progress and deal with any problems which may have occurred. In the field of eye surgery this would be a consultant with at least four years’ experience.

Mimento Merchandise
For many years Miriam made greetings cards for friends and family by hand. They were beautiful gifts in their own right and luckily many people kept them. Miriam had hoped to start her own
business, Mimento, producing handmade cards. We have taken up her idea and hope to develop it by reproducing some of her own designs.
All proceeds from the sale of the cards will go to the Miriam Hyman Memorial Fund within ORBIS UK.
*We have almost sold out the packs of six design cards. However, we have repacked the 2 individual cards (A and B on Mimento website) into packs of 6 (3 of each design) which cost £8 per pack.*
